I just received my Yamaha 6030 and had the basic cabling and setup done in 30 minutes and the detailed setup done over the course of a few hours of DVD, DVR, CD, and cable TV watching. Sound quality is excellent. A perfect receiver for a simple to moderate home theater system where DVI/HDMI cables are not going to be used. Since I’m using component video exclusively, and primarily digital audio – it is perfect for me. There are 2 digital optical inputs and 1 digital coaxial input which can be assigned to whatever device you want. Every input volume level can be trimmed up to +/- 6db so you don’t get volume spikes when switching input devices. And you can hook up a huge variety of devices. You get AM/FM and can upgrade to XM radio.

In summary, great basic/intermediate home theater receiver for 5.1 speaker systems for those not needing exotic features or DVI/HDMI support – and a great price! But do yourself a favor and go buy a better universal remote like the Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote.

This product is a great value, it gets the job done. The system is easy to set up and use. Would recommend to most anyone, except the true audiophile.

  3. Well for starters, I have been a Yamaha receiver fan for years now, I just got this cheap one so my dad could use his surround sound that came with our living room with the purchase of a used home. It does its job perfectly with the 5 channel surround, not too powerful and not too weak. It is excellent for people just starting out with the home theatre thing. I originally had a receiver similar to this but then upgraded to the RX-V559 and then eventually to the RX-V661, and every Yamaha receiver I have had ended up being amazing. I will always trust Yamaha to make excellent products as far as their receivers go and would never buy another from someone else.

  4. The unit is very nice looking and seems to be of very good quality.

It pumps out the volume very well on my 5.1 speakers & powered 12″ JBL woofer.

The remote is cheesy and very difficult to understand. I can’t even figure out how to search for tuner stations ? I will say this is my first receiver and I am somewhat clueless but, I build computers for fun and this is more difficult to understand to get working correctly. It wil even work with satellite radio …The front input jacks are a definite plus+ I would buy this again. Heavy construction.

I have spent quite some time looking for a new receiver, but in the end i came back to Yamaha (my old receiver was also a Yamaha but i gave my whole audio setup to my sibling when i was moving).

Sound is just great. When you pair them with good speakers you can start listening to music in a completely new way.

    Build quality is outstanding.

What this receiver is “missing” is hdmi connector(s) (switch). However, it can handle your HDTV signals trough component connectors (as it is stated in product description).

This is what i have connected to it:

-2 DVD players (one with optical and one with coaxial audio cable)

    -Cable TV

    -audio from computer

Works like a charm. Highly recommended.
